ARAMARK Distance Learning Dietetic Internship
PictureARAMARK Distance Learning Dietetic Internship provided the intern with the opportunity to visit different facilities within the nine month program. Each hospital facility the intern visited allowed her to gain experience in the different ways Registered Dietitians work. Being in the different facilities within the clinical, food service, and community rotations allowed the intern to develop strong relationships with other dietetic professionals in the Indiana area.



Franciscan Alliance St. Margaret Mercy in Hammond, Indiana

St. Margaret Mercy Hospital in Hammond, Indiana is a 475 bed facility where the intern spent most of her time throughout the internship program. The intern provided medical nutrition therapy and nutrition counseling to patients and families with various diseases and illnesses during the clinical rotation. The intern also spent ten weeks in the food service setting where she worked in production, retail, and patient service aspects of food service. 



Franciscan Alliance St. Margaret Mercy in Dyer, Indiana
St. Margaret Mercy Hospital in Dyer, Indiana is where the intern spent a few weeks during her clinical rotation. She was able to shadow a Bariatric Dietitian and scrub in during a gastric bypass surgery. The intern had experiences in the psychiatric unit and was able to work with other dietetic professionals and build relationships that allowed her to grow professionally.



Kindred Hospital Hammond, Indiana
  Kindred Hospital is a hospital within St. Margaret Mercy in Hammond, Indiana. The intern was able to spend a week in the acute long-term care hospital where she attended meetings with the dietitian, corporate, doctors, and management.


Catherine McAuley Clinic Hammond, Indiana
The Catherine McAuley Clinic is a volunteer-based medical clinic for uninsured citizens of the Northwest Indiana area. This is where the intern completed her one month community rotation. She was able to gain experience in applying the Nutrition Care Process in a community setting. The intern also developed and facilitated a Healthy Eating class for the community.
